Introduction

The Justice Information Resource Network (JIRN), a national non-profit based in Washington, D.C., serves as the lead organization under the federal cooperative agreement funding The Center for Victim Research (CVR). CVR is a web-based resource center for victim service providers and researchers to connect and share knowledge, increase access to victim research and data, and utilize the research and data collection for crime victim services nationwide. CVR is funded entirely by government-issued grants.

Job Description

The Justice Information Resource Network (JIRN) is seeking a WordPress web developer for The Center for Victim Research (CVR) project to be responsible for regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and development of the CVR website. The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems. This person should understand the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment. Must be self-motivated, responsible for project communication, and be able to work independently.

Responsibilities        

  • Design and implement new features and functionalities
  • Update existing content/assess and fix hard-coding
  • Ensure high performance and availability
  • Monitor the performance of the website
  • Identify areas of improvement within the site
  • Meet with stakeholders to discuss designs and functionalities
  • Other tasks as needed

Qualifications and Skill Sets

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development, software development, or related field preferred
  • Proven work experience as a WordPress developer
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
  • Experience building accessible user interfaces for websites
  • Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
  • Developing and working with custom themes
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Experience working with debugging tools
  • Good communication skills
  • Familiarity with Pantheon a plus
  • Ability to trouble shoot and optimize web pages for security and responsiveness
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $50 – $60 per hour

Schedule: Ability to meet mutually agreed upon deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs) for emergency requests.
