JIRN Brown Bag: Examining Crime Clearance Rates Using Illinois NIBRS Data

Staff from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) will highlight their SJS-funded work exploring Illinois NIBRS data and crime clearance patterns. In 2020, Illinois transitioned from the traditional Summary Reporting System (SRS) to NIBRS, with the Illinois State Police serving as the repository host and the ICJIA acting as the statewide criminal justice information clearinghouse. We will provide an overview of our assessment of Illinois NIBRS reporting, focusing on agency participation, data quality, and the use of IL-NIBRS system for statistical analyses of crime data. In addition, we will share insights on recent trends in crime clearances in Illinois based on NIBRS data.
