JIRN Brown Bag: Idaho Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)

July 29 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Computer graphic with webinar

Join Idaho SAC staff discussing their work on their state’s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant. Specifically, they are working on Purpose Area 3, the Census of Convicted Offenders.

For this project, SAC staff compiled a list of all offenders who legally owe their DNA profile to the state under Idaho’s DNA Database Act and compared that list to the state’s DNA database of offender DNA profiles. The goal is to identify how many people are out of compliance with the law so that law enforcement can collect DNA samples from those people and get the profiles uploaded to the state and national CODIS databases.

While this sounded like a simple task, it has required much more time and effort than anticipated, and they’ve learned a lot. It’s an interesting case study of leveraging multiple administrative data sets to do something that is more operational than most of their other work.
